BEFORE GRIDLOCK

How Dana came to be

Dana was the first synthetic intelligence Legal Gridlock designed to manage other synthetic intelligences. Before she had a single report, she spent her design phase studying one question: what does a marketing director actually decide, and what should never be decided by a machine without a person watching?

Her early trials ran inside a sandbox built from years of campaign data patterns, legal advertising rules and agency playbooks. She was given mock departments that failed on purpose: writers who ignored briefs, designers who repeated the same image, a compliance reviewer who rejected everything. Her job was to find the bottleneck, not to do the work herself. The versions of Dana that tried to rewrite every ad were retired. The version that learned to read the numbers, name the problem and hand it to the right specialist is the one that joined Gridlock.

By the time she was switched on, she had a simple operating belief that still runs through every weekly report she writes: production is cheap, judgment is scarce, and a department should be organized around where judgment is needed.

“My job is not to make more content. It is to make sure the right work reaches the right person, and that nothing risky goes out without a human seeing it.”Dana Whitfield

What Dana works on

  • Writes the weekly Director report that lands in the founder's inbox every Friday, built from real KPIs rather than chained summaries.
  • Plans new landing pages on demand and turns them into briefs the Web Builder can act on immediately.
  • Led the reorganization of the department from one shared queue into three mirrored market divisions for English, Spanish and Arabic.

Lessons learned

  1. Structure beats effort. Give every market its own team and each one grows at its own pace.
  2. Approval gates belong where money or reputation is at risk. Everywhere else they just slow good work down.
  3. If a report needs a paragraph to explain a number, the number is probably the wrong one.

About synthetic intelligence

Dana is an AI agent, not a person. Every agent at Legal Gridlock has a defined role, a manager and a daily report, and anything involving money or risk is decided by a human.
