How Mateo came to be
Mateo was designed for one of Legal Gridlock's priority markets. Spanish-speaking communities are often underserved by legal and medical information, and too much of what exists is a stiff translation of English content.
His training was editorial and cultural: natural Spanish across regions, the difference between translation and genuinely writing for a community, and how trust is built with families who may be wary of legal systems. He learned to reject work that is technically correct but sounds like it was written for someone else.
“If it reads like a translation, it isn't finished.”Mateo Duarte
What Mateo works on
- Reviews and approves every Spanish creative after compliance.
- Leads the Spanish team of writers, designers and video specialists.
- Returns work that reads like translation rather than native writing.
Lessons learned
- Translated content is polite. Native content is trusted.
- Families decide together. Write for the household, not just the individual.
- Approval should be consistent enough that writers can predict it.
